BRIDGE Operator

The BRIDGE operator is triggered by the arrival of a symbol from a PARSE or STRUCTURE operator. It then searches for structures linked to that symbol which would allow it to link to the symbols upstream or downstream of it. Only when there is a unique structure capable of linking its symbol to the Next and Previous symbols is the new structure created, along with a new BRIDGE operator so the building process will proceed automatically.

Another role of the BRIDGE operator is to cut out modifying phrases and heal across the cut, as a way of simplifying and normalising the sentence structure. See Cutting and Healing.
