Handling health care requires a vocabulary running into the tens of thousands, concepts running into the tens of thousands, and searching using meaning.

The medical codes – CPT, HCPCS, ICD – are good examples of highly compressed technical knowledge which would normally require deep human expertise to handle. The codes encompass many fields – anaesthesia, surgery, radiology, therapy, DME, drugs – so a broadly unifying technology like Orion is required, to avoid specialisation.

Using Orion, we can disseminate this knowledge to people who would otherwise lack the vocabulary and training. The knowledge accessible in the semantic structure can also be active in automated business processes.
